Montrose Memorial Hospital, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, and San Juan Radiation Oncology Join Together to Bring Radiation Therapy Treatment to Montrose

Montrose Memorial Hospital is pleased to offer a new service to our region.  Montrose Memorial Hospital together with St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and San Juan Radiation Oncology worked together to develop the San Juan Cancer Center in Montrose.  The San Juan Cancer Center offers radiation therapy treatments for oncology patients, in addition to medical oncology (chemotherapy) treatment.  “We are very proud to be able to bring this cutting edge technology to our community.  This collaborative effort combines the exemplary capabilities of our friends at St. Mary’s together with our Medical Oncology program which will enable our patients to receive comprehensive cancer therapy services right here in Montrose” says Ken Platou, CEO at Montrose Memorial Hospital.

The San Juan Cancer Center began seeing patients on April 3, 2006, at South Fifth and Park Street.  The facility is a 14,549 square foot facility with two stories; the radiation treatment area on the first floor, and the medical oncology area on the second floor.

The Cancer Center serves patients from Montrose, Gunnison, Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride and many other surrounding communities.  These patients are able to receive the same level of care and see the same radiation physicians they have been seeing in Grand Junction, without driving 60 miles to get there.  This service makes radiation treatment easier on the patient, their family and friends.  “This represents the culmination of a lot of hard work and exemplifies our vision of working towards a collaborative approach of providing healthcare in the region,” said Bob Ladenburger, President/CEO of St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

Montrose Memorial Hospital has an association with the University of Colorado Cancer Center for medical oncology services which brings world renowned physicians from the University to Montrose to care for patients locally.  This association will continue to be a part of the Montrose Memorial Hospital cancer treatment program.  “The association with the University of Colorado Cancer Center oncologists, along with the radiation oncology service, brings complete cancer care to the community,” added Mary Snyder, Montrose Memorial Hospital Chief Operating Officer
