HOSPITAL HAPPENINGS: August 2016

For most people, the thought of having surgery can be very stressful and many factors come into play as the decision to have surgery becomes necessary.   There are appointments, time away from work, coordinating transportation, and of course, your care after surgery.   In many cases, recovery from surgery poses one of the biggest challenges.   Pain management after surgery is consistently a concern of most patients as is the ability to return to normal function and/or returning to work.

The good news is modern surgical tools can assist patients by reducing many of the stressors outlined above.  Robotic Surgery is one of the most modern and technologically advanced methods of having surgery today.   Surgeons who operate utilizing the DaVinci Surgical Robot provide their patients with the best possible outcomes.  Small incisions and sometimes only one small incision at the belly button provide for faster recoveries, less discomfort, and very tiny scars.   Studies show that post-surgical pain is greatly reduced, length of stay in the hospital is less, and most patients return to their daily activities at a much faster rate than with traditional surgery.  Post-surgical infections are also reduced.

Our community nicknamed the Robot at Montrose Memorial Hospital “Max.”  Max provides the surgeons with 3-D imaging with ultra-high definition optics.  The surgeons are able to see like never before.  In addition, the robotic arms assist the surgeon with greater ability to work in spaces that are very difficult to reach and visualize as compared to traditional operations.

We are hosting a Robotic Surgical Services Open House on Friday, August 12 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and we would love to have you come meet Max and take him for a test drive.  Max will be on display in the Lobby Grille at MMH and surgeons and staff members who use the robot assisted technology will be available to answer your questions and show you how it works.

If surgery becomes necessary for you to return to good health, we want you to know that you’re in good “hands” with Max and the specially trained physicians and surgical team.    Together they provide the best possible outcomes for you and your loved ones.  Come over on the 12th and see for yourself!
