As Montrose Memorial closes out a very productive 2015, I want to share some of the most significant achievements and highlight initiatives that are in process for next year that will make our local economy and health system even stronger.

First, it takes all of you to make MMH great.  The physicians are the engine of our great healthcare system. We continue to recruit and attract quality physicians and support staff for many of the reasons you and I came to Montrose - it’s a great place to live, work and raise a family. This year, four physicians joined the team: Dr. Joseph Adragna, Family Medicine; Dr. Derick Fenton, OB/Gyn; Dr. Jordan Luskin, Urology; and Dr. Steve Hillam, Ophthalmology.   And to start the New Year, Dr. Matthew Smolin, Cardiologist, will begin seeing patients in January. These new providers are a wonderful fit for Montrose Memorial, and bring a lot of energy and expertise to our community.

In 2015, MMH set new records in patient care. By year end, we will have taken care of more than 123,000 patients, provided more than 17,000 medical imaging procedures, performed hundreds of joint replacement surgeries, and administered more than 14,000 chemotherapy treatments at the San Juan Canter Center—all while maintaining high patient satisfaction ratings.

Collaboration is very important to us and toward that end, in 2016 we continue to build on our alliances with other regional health providers in Delta, Gunnison and Telluride. In addition, Montrose Memorial is updating its facilities master plan, something we do every three years.  Our current effort focuses on a master campus plan that will help us deliver the services our community needs in the future. We expect to complete this process by summer.

Nonprofit healthcare systems like Montrose Memorial rely on three sources of funding—revenues through medical services, judicially borrowed funds and donations. While our revenue increased almost ten percent in 2015 and our debt is down, a new philanthropy initiative is underway to build on our loyal, local donor base. By expanding our foundation of supporters, we improve our ability to define our future local health system.

Finally, I want to thank the Montrose Memorial team for its hard work and the community for its ongoing support. We know you have choices in healthcare, and we thank you for choosing us time and again.
