Hospital Hat Trick: MMH Earns Three National Awards for Cleanliness, Patient Satisfaction

MONTROSE, CO: Avatar Solutions, an industry leader in healthcare quality improvement services, announced its 2015 award-winning hospital partners. The organization announced that Montrose Memorial Hospital is the proud winner of three national awards relating to measures including cleanliness and patient satisfaction.

The first award is an indicator of consistent cleanliness: the HCAHPS – Best Performer – Clean Composite award for medium sized hospitals. The award indicates the hospital was rated the highest by patients, compared with other hospitals nationwide of similar size. It was the fourth time in five years the hospital has won this award.

Ron Courtney, MMHI Board Chair said, "These awards are so gratifying. They aren't the result of one act or some well written policies but instead the product of a pervasive attitude and dedication by the entire staff. Our community is very fortunate to be served by such an outstanding healthcare system. Montrose can be very proud of its hospital!"

The second award, Exceeding Expectations, is awarded based on MMH’s prominent standing in “measuring patient expectation about quality of care, reliability and customization before the patient visit” according to Avatar Solutions.

The third award, Best Overall Performer, indicates MMH was given the highest score in a wide-ranging composite intended to measure overall hospital performance. For this award, the hospital was measured by the following criterion: Overall Rating, Willingness to Recommend, Communications with Nurses, Communications with Doctors, Communications about Medications, Responsiveness of Hospital Staff, Discharge Information, Pain Management, Cleanliness of the Hospital Environment, and Quietness of the Hospital Environment.

Avatar collects data anonymously from MMH patients via questionnaires that include various statements about their visit. For instance, one cleanliness question read “The area around my room and bathroom were “always” clean.” From April 2014 to March 2015, 85% of patients from Montrose Memorial Hospital responded yes. The Colorado hospital average for this item is 75%, while the National average 74%. (see

“As a pillar in our community, we’re privileged to be the healthcare provider of choice for our patients. We’re honored to receive their recognition of our cleanliness and exemplary care,” said Steve Hannah, MHA, CEO of Montrose Memorial Hospital.

“The Avatar awards offer an opportunity to highlight each award-winning organization’s continuous drive to keep patients and staff at the center of their focus for improvement – in delivering a fantastic patient experience,” said Lynn Ehrmantraut, Senior Vice President of Performance Improvement at Avatar Solutions.
